Reserved '06 another smashing success

l-r: Sam Sullivan, John Steeves, Rick Hansen, Andrei Krassioukov, John & Penny Ryan at the April, 2006 gala

Congratulations to John and Penny Ryan for hosting their third annual Reserved fundraising gala in support of the John and Penny Ryan BC Leadership Chair, held by ICORD Director Dr. John Steeves. The event, held on April 30th at the Four Seasons Resort Whistler, was a smashing success, raising more than $273,000 (including matching funds from the Regeneration Tour Society). This contribution fully capitalizes the $6 million endowment. A huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended the event, to those who donated items for the auction or made cash contributions, to John and Penny for hosting the event, and to the dedicated team at Whistler Real Estate for their organizational mastery.

Wheels In Motion Vancouver 2006

The 2006 Rick Hansen Wheels In Motion Vancouver Event was another success, with over 1,000 participants raising a total of over $90,000 for local quality of life initiatives and SCI research. ICORD was proud to be an event partner along with the BC Wheelchair Sports Association and the BC Paraplegic Association. A random sample of nearly 100 participants indicated they had an excellent time and truly enjoyed the food, fun and festivities the event at the Plaza of Nations had to offer. A new and wildly popular attraction at the event was the inaugural Invacare Canada Wheelchair Skills Challenge. Teams of five from a wide range of corporations, institutions and community organizations competed against each other and the clock in an enlightening set of real-world wheelchair challenges. Congratulations to team ICORD who placed 3rd out of the 20 teams entered in the competition, and to West Shore Constructors, winner of this year's challenge.
